Liquid nitrogen
Liquid nitrogen is a quick and easy solution for wart removal and verruca treatment. Pop in to have skin tags, warts and verrucas treated safely and effectively. We can do wart treatments and verruca treatments during a regular mole check.
An effective, easy treatment for verrucas and wart
Often during a mole check, we find superficial warts, verrucas and other non-cancerous skin irregularities which can easily be removed by liquid nitrogen, which is a type of cryotherapy. In seconds, warts and verrucas can be frozen which then causes warts or lesions to scab for 1-2 weeks, fall off and then heal.
Liquid nitrogen can only be administered in a medical clinic as it is a cold liquified gas. The liquid nitrogen destroys the tissue by freezing it. As well as being very fast, it’s also relatively painless.
What can you expect from liquid nitrogen therapy?
- We apply liquid nitrogen for 5 – 10 seconds either with a spray gun or on a swab stick
- You might feel mild stinging while the Liquid nitrogen treatment happens and experience redness
- It should turn white after the treatment before forming a scab
- Avoid knocking or picking the scab, and consider covering with a plaster or Vaseline to protect it
- Sometimes two liquid nitrogen treatments may be needed before the lesion disappears completely.
Can liquid nitrogen treat your skin lesions?
Liquid nitrogen can treat a variety of superficial lesions but is not suitable for mole removal. Try this treatment, for instance, on :
- Viral warts
- Sunspots (Solar keratosis)
- Molluscum contagiosum in adults
- Senile warts (seborrhoeic keratoses)
- Some skin tags
It’s a good idea to get a regular mole check and you can ask for Liquid Nitrogen treatment during this appointment or just pop in to see one of our Practise Nurses.
