COVID-19 Vaccine
Protect yourself and your whānau by keeping up-to-date with the Covid-19 vaccine programme.
How do Covid-19 vaccines work?
Above all, the goal of the Covid-19 vaccine is to help your body build immunity in the event you get exposed to the virus. Additionally, the Pfizer vaccine for Covid 19 is very safe and has been extensively tested. Over time, immunity from the jab will wane, so a booster shot is needed.
Why should I get a Covid-19 jab?
If you, your kaumātua and whānau have all been double vaccinated, we lower the chances of community spread. Likewise, we also protect members of our community and workforce who have underlying health conditions that mean they can’t have vaccinations. Kids over the age of 5 years are also now eligible for their Covid vaccine. Little ones under 5 are not yet eligible, so the more kiwi’s manaaki to get vaccinated, the better we protect our smallest tamariki.
Is the Covid Vaccine safe (and which types are available)?
Reassuringly, Covid Vaccine safety in NZ is carefully checked by Medsafe. In fact, the Pfizer vaccine was chosen for initial rollout as it met high standards of quality, safety, and efficacy that Medsafe demand. Recently approval has been given for other vaccines too, including AstraZeneca, for those over 18 who can’t have Pfizer. The good news is those at greatest risk from Covid-19 like pregnant women can even rest assured that there’s even evidence suggesting their pēpi will benefit by getting some antibodies to build immunity.
Covid Vaccinations at your workplace
Been wondering if there’s a covid vaccination centre near work? There sure is. Proudly, we support any business in the Highbrook community that wants to offer their workers easy to access vaccinations. So, we look forward to seeing some of you at pop-up vaccine centres in your workplace. Hopefully making it easy for you to get your jab without having to take time off work. Moreover, if you are a business owner, ask us how today.
Before your Covid jab, please advise your vaccinator if you:
- Ever experienced allergic reactions to injections of vaccines
- Use blood thinning medication or have a bleeding disorder
- Are pregnant (or could be), or are currently breastfeeding
Common side effects from the Pfizer vaccine
Actually, it’s not unusual to experience side effects after a Covid-19 vaccination. For example
- Pain where you got the jab
- Headache or fatigue
- Achy muscles of joints
- You might have a Fever or nausea but this shouldn’t be for long.
Be reassured, experiencing side effects is a sign that your body is reacting to the vaccine. It’s starting to build immunity to Covid-19. Therefore, you don’t need to delay the second dose.
However, if you are having a reaction that you are concerned about don’t hesitate to call us. Of course, our vaccinators are trained to treat these. Out of our hours, please call Healthline or visit East Care Urgent Care.
