Meet Dr. Jacky Lu – Highbrook Medical’s New GP

Dr Jacky Lu

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Jacky Lu to the Highbrook Medical team! Dr. Lu’s journey in medicine began at medical school in Dunedin, followed by two years as an intern in Palmerston North. He then moved to Whanganui to work as a general surgery registrar before spending two more years in general surgery at Middlemore Hospital. Last year, he made the switch to general practice, bringing with him a wealth of surgical experience and a keen interest in minor surgical procedures.

A Hands-On Approach to Patient Care – Bringing surgical skills to the community

Dr. Lu enjoys working on surgical issues, particularly minor procedures, as it allows him to take a hands-on approach to patient care. He appreciates the ability to switch into work mode and focus entirely on the task at hand, making each procedure both engaging and rewarding. His background in general surgery has given him a strong skill set that he is excited to apply in a primary care setting. He is also looking forward to building relationships with his patients and delivering high-quality care.

Choosing Highbrook Medical

Dr. Lu was introduced to Highbrook Medical through his friend, Dr. Ranen Reddy, who spoke highly of the clinic. Taking his friend’s recommendation to heart, he decided to join the team and has already found it to be a great fit. He is looking forward to working alongside his new colleagues and supporting the community with his expertise.

Life Outside the Clinic

Outside of work, Dr. Lu has a range of interests. He enjoys woodworking, going to the gym, and playing video games in his downtime. He also has a love for animals, with a cat and a chicken as his beloved pets. In addition to English, he speaks conversational Mandarin, allowing him to connect with a broader range of patients. We are excited to have Dr. Lu on board and look forward to the valuable skills and expertise he brings to Highbrook Medical!
